If you will be in Nairobi between September 28th and 2nd October, you can get a chance to watch Grammy Award-winning, Ladysmith Black Mambazo perform, at this year’s Annual Safaricom Classical Fusion Concert now in its 3rd year. The acapella group from South Africa is well-known for its isicathamiya and mbube vocal styles.

The Mombasa event will take place at the Great Lake at Butterfly Pavilion at the equally famous Haller Park in Bamburi. The park hit local and international news headlines when back in 2004 it became the scene of a rare spectacle in the animal kingdom.

It all started when a one-year-old hippo named Owen was rescued in the Indian Ocean and brought to the park from where he found friendship in the most unlikely creature, a 130-year-old giant Aldabra tortoise named Mzee.

The Nairobi concert will take place at the Nairobi Arboretum on the 30th and thereafter, a sumptuous dinner will conclude the day. The grand event, which will also double as a family fun day, will take place at the Nairobi Impala Grounds on the 2nd. Tickets will be KES 500.00 for adults, KES 200.00 for Students and KES 100.00 for children under the age of 12 years.

If you will be attending the Arboretum event then you can purchase a special KES 4,500.00 ticket which includes dinner later in the evening. Tickets can be purchased through the online M-Pesa ticketing system.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is Africa’s most successful group with more than 65 albums since their 1970 recording début to their name. They have been nominated 13 times for the coveted Grammy Award which they won once for their 1987 album, Shaka Zulu (Best Traditional Recording in the World).

There will be several performances from our own Sauti Sol, Kenya Conservatoire of Music Orchestra, Nairobi Orchestra, Safaricom Choir, Nairobi Chamber Chorus, Strathmore Chorale, Kenyatta University, Africa Nazarene University, Moi Nairobi Girls, Starehe Boys Centre, Starehe Girls Centre, Alliance High School, among others, alongside the South African sensations.
